The Ultimate Frisbee team started out as a club established by students looking for a fun sport that wouldn't be as time-consuming as the sports offered at LCHS. It consists of students of all grade levels who meet on Fridays at Hahamonga Park to practice. The team is coached by science teacher Mrs. Wheeler and English teacher Mr. Redmond, both of whom are experienced frisbee players.
This Ultimate Frisbee team plays in local tournaments against other local schools, including South Pasadena High School, formerly the best team in SoCal, and Flintridge Prep. These matches are normally held on Fridays. However, in the last tournament La Cañada played on March 20th, our Frisbee team beat South Pas and became the number one frisbee team in SoCal.
According to junior Rudra Menon, "Ultimate games versus local teams are not only great learning opportunities for the team, but also fun social events."
Junior Titan Burl commented, “I enjoy playing frisbee because it’s so fun and different than any other sport on campus.”
Mehran Rahman, another junior member on the team, said, “I like it because it is not only an enjoyable sport but also helps us practice teamwork.”
Intrigued by this new sport that I had never heard of, I dropped by one of their practices. They were very friendly and not only taught me how to throw, but also incorporated me into their fun yet intense game. Though it seems that frisbee is an obscure sport, there is actually a community of teams and groups that support and play each other.
