The girls’ golf season has finally ended, with the advancement of freshman Maddie Kang into the CIF playoffs. On October 20th, Maddie Kang and sophomore Rachel Oh competed at the Pacific League final. Maddie came in 8th place with a score of 84, while Rachel came in 9th place with a score of 89. As a result, Maddie advanced into the league finals for the CIF playoffs. She occupied the last available spot in the tournament.
In reaction to her performance during both the playoffs and the entire golf season, Maddie Kang said, “Based on this year, I personally think I need to improve more next year. Next year, I hope to place or win CIF.”
With Maddie’s advancement into the CIF playoffs, the girl’s golf season came to an end. This season progressed differently from the past seasons because it was Coach Turner’s first year in charge of the golf teams at LCHS. Although they had to work with a new coach, the team members expressed satisfaction with the improvement of their scores throughout the season.
Sophomore Jaden Efting said, “I think this season I learned a lot of new skills. This year was much more involved and serious than last year, which improved our scores.”
Many of the girls stated that they improved a lot with the addition of a new coach and became closer to each other. Team captain Rachel Oh also expressed her gratitude to the team and the coach.
“During this season, our team experienced a lot of change for the better. We improved drastically within a short period of time with the guidance and support from Coach Turner, and will improve even more in the future,” she said.
The new members of the girls’ golf team stated their opinions on their first year, and some of their goals for the following year.
Freshman Emilee Herrmann said, “I really enjoyed my first year on the girl’s golf team. My goals are to improve my scores and eye rolling while playing.”
Overall, the new coach’s approach to the girl’s golf team helped them improve and become more dedicated to the sport.
