This summer brought a change to the LCHS athletics department that athletes have been eagerly anticipating for years: a remodeled weight room.
Thanks to the partnership between the Boosters and the District, we were able to receive a brand new, state of the art fitness facility.
AP Gov/Econ teacher and Athletics Director, Mrs. Kalb, expressed, “I am so grateful for the Boosters and the District for putting in such a phenomenal facility for our students.”
With a complete new array of machines, athletes are no longer forced to work out on pieces of ancient equipment.
The old pavement has been replaced with a new flooring that is composed of a padded cushion to reduce the risk of injury and to increase the level of comfort for athletes.
Senior football player, Chris Han, describes the new weight room as “a big improvement from the old one. It is much more useful as there aren’t lines of 20 people waiting for the bench press anymore.”
No longer are the machines broken and outdated. Seniors, juniors, and sophomore athletes may remember the times when machines were commonly disconnected to the weights and you were forced to resort to the good ol’ free weights. The new weight room won’t put you through such hardship.
Benjamin Donoho, sophomore wrestler, sees the new additions as “a lot better. The old weight room was dirty and not well kept. The new fitness center is much more modern.”
Other improvements implemented during the renovation include the removal of a wall that divided two rooms and the creation of a turf section that athletes can use for a variety of pushing and pulling exercises.
Emmanuel Garcia, senior football player, was optimistic about the future of athletics at LCHS: “This weight room upgrade will propel our athletics into dominance. It has become a tool of excellence for our athletes.”
If you have any free time during your day, take a stop by the new gym and see for yourself everything it has to offer!
