The Boys’ Varsity Water Polo team has been busily preparing for the season ahead. Under the guidance of Coach Flores and captain/senior Kyle Ghaby, the team hopes to improve their overall record from last year (12-11).
Offensive player and junior Tyler Chung said, “We are doing a lot of swimming for the first couple of weeks, and then we will probably go over some strategies and ball skills.”
With several senior players graduating last spring, the team must prepare rigorously for the season ahead. They are also very confident in their abilities and believe that they will have a better record this year.
“We will have a good run this season. South Pasadena will definitely be a close game. Last year we went into overtime with them and ended up winning. There is still a lot of work to do before our first game,” said Tyler Chung.
There are several strong players on the team, but the entire team must work together in order to be victorious.
When asked about the team’s strongest assets, Coach Chris Flores said, “The best outside shooters are juniors Luke Stefan and Tyler Chung. The best shooters from 2 meters are junior Wyatt Lowe and freshman Alec Abrahamian. The best defensive player is senior Justin Ho.”
Coach Flores is looking forward to this season and is satisfied with his team’s current performance.
Their first game of the season is an away game scheduled on October 6th against Monrovia High School. Although their first game is away, please encourage and cheer them on so that they can start the season with a splash.
