“iPhone at its largest. And thinnest.”Apple has just released the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus, and besides size, they contain several new aspects and are preloaded with the newly released iOS 8 update.
The first thing one may notice is the “innovative seamless design,” as Apple calls it. All this means is that unlike the previous iPhones, there are no straight-cut edges; the edges of the iPhone 6 and 6 plus are curved, looking a little more like Samsung phones. Also, Apple claims the new iPhones have an improved polarizer, which enhances visuals when users are wearing sunglasses.
Furthermore, the renovated fingerprint scanner of the iPhone 6 is receiving quite a load of skepticism. Apple claims the fingertip scanner is secure, but from past experiences with the iPhone 5S, that does not seem to be the case.
According to the New York Times, "Only a couple of days after Apple’s iPhones went on sale, somebody managed to fool its fingerprint sensor.”
To address the requests of those who frequently take photos and videos on their iPhones, Apple has created new features for the camera. Users will now have access to exposure control, burst mode, and an improved face detection is available when taking photos. The “cinematic video stabilization” system is supposed to keep the shots steady even when the user is in motion. Also, users will be able to capture a “more dramatic slo-mo video” and produce time-lapse videos.
The durability of new devices is a key aspect in buying better gadgets. There are several videos on youtube that show these new devices being dropped from standing height at several angles. When dropped on the back, both iPhones showed little to no damage. However, when the iPhone 6 plus was dropped on the bottom, the screen shattered instantly, coming apart from the actual iPhone itself. When both iPhones were dropped on the screens, the phones had no chance and shattered.
Although the screens were cracked, the phone itself still worked, proving the display is relatively strong. Apple product buyers defended the new iPhones, stating that the case makes a big difference. While the case does matter, one must always be careful with a device that contains all of their personal information and memories. Android users criticized the gadgets, saying that the galaxies are far more durable.
All in all, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus contain several new features from size to programming. However, it is your choice whether or not the new device is worth your money - is bigger better?
