On Friday, January 9, ASB arranged a Teacher Appreciation Lunch, provided by Star Cafe, in the Multi-Purpose Room. Thirteen teachers were chosen by the ASB students because of their contributions to improving student life and supporting ASB school events. The students based their votes on the first semester of this school year.
The thirteen teachers were Mrs. Calm, Mr. Valassidis, Dr. Brooky, Dr. E, Mr. Yoder, Mr. Matthews, Mr. Williams, Ms. Hill, Coach Lambert, Coach Johnson, Mr. Beaty, Mrs. G, and Ms. Kalb. Although Mr. Valassidis and Dr. Brooky could not attend the luncheon, the other teachers were greeted with applause and cheers from the ASB members as they entered the MPR.
Jenna Gray and Sarah Sellman gave speeches, thanking each of the thirteen teachers for their dedication and contribution to raising school spirit and supporting school events.
Mr. Beaty says, “I am absolutely and totally honored to be in such great company of all these teachers and I really appreciate the ASB for their underappreciated job at the school.”
Jenna Gray says, “We really appreciate teachers for supporting any extracurricular activities, such as clubs, outside of academics.”
To mention a few contributions, ASB thanked Coach Johnson for helping the Special Education Department and Mr. Matthews for his dedication to the football team.
Despite the many qualities our teachers possess, Jenna Gray says the ASB members and other students appreciate “teachers who support their students not only academically, but as people.” She mentioned how Mr. Beaty’s “door is always open and he’s just there if you need to talk.”
There will be another ASB Teacher Appreciation Luncheon at the end of this school year, thanking the teachers for supporting the La Cañada students during the second semester. In the meantime, ASB would like to thank all teachers, not only those who were mentioned, for supporting the students both academically and personally.
