Melissa Kukta is one of the five new counselors who have joined the staff of our school this year. She attended Cal State Fullerton for her undergrad in Psychology and got her Master of Science in Educational Counseling at the University of La Verne. Ms. Kukta then went to Westlake High School, where she was a counselor for 9 years before coming here to LCHS.
When asked why she chose LCHS, Ms. Kukta replied, “I came here because, in terms of student achievement and the expectations of what students are doing in the classroom and what they are going to do after [high] school and after college, all of that is very similar to Westlake High School. I also live closer to this school than to Westlake, so really it was just a good fit in terms of really liking the mission behind what La Cañada is trying to do for students and it really matched up with what I had been doing.”
Ms. Kukta feels very close to her family and loves to spending time with them, especially both her parents, her brother, sister, and 11-year-old niece. She also loves to cook, notably Italian dishes. Camping is also a favorite pastime of hers. As a child, her dream job was either to be a chef, secretary, or wedding planner, but she is very pleased with the fulfilling career she has chosen.
Our staff's creativity oozes onto the Features pages as we report on the cultural, the personal, and the life-changing.
