Lawrence Ku, a senior at LCHS and an amazing soccer player on the Varsity team, has been awarded with a partial scholarship to Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania.
“I am very excited to play at Gettysburg. I was very focused on playing at a Division 1 school, but after looking at the academic side, I chose to play Division 3 so I could have more time for my studies,” Lawrence said.
He started playing soccer at the age of four after being inspired by both his sister and father, who were soccer players themselves. He tried out many different sports, but soccer always remained his favorite.
“I became passionate about soccer because I never have more fun than when I’m on the field,” he explained.
Lawrence has played on the LCHS Varsity Soccer team since freshman year. Lawrence mainly plays the forward position, whose focus is on scoring as many goals as possible. He also plays midfield, the link between the offense and defense. This year, he is one of the team captains alongside junior Sam Adida, junior Jack Meeker, and senior Mikey Selsor.
“I came in as a freshman and fell in love with the varsity program at LCHS. Both the coaching staff and players are always great to work with every year. The team at LCHS is like a family to me and it’s always awesome to experience being on a team like that.”
Lawrence has high expectations for this year’s season, especially after last year’s run to the CIF Semifinals. Despite having many new first-year players, Lawrence is very confident about the team.
When asked about his soccer ambitions this year, Lawrence said, “I have a lot of goals I have set for myself and the team this year. My inspiration to achieve those goals is my grandpa. He’s been having a tough time as he fights lung cancer. He might not be around for my high school graduation so I want to make sure I win league, CIF, and State for him.”
