La Cañada has many places that offer sweet frozen treats. Custard, italian ice, frozen yogurt… the list goes on. As the days are getting warmer and the sun is shining brighter, these frozen treat shops are getting filled with more and more customers.
Although a small town, La Cañada has Ritas, Penguins, and Pinkberry to help satisfy those cravings!
Rita’s recently opened in La Cañada around two years ago, offering Italian ice cream and frozen custard. There are unique Italian ice flavors like Georgia peach, green apple, and chocolate peanut butter. Creamy thick custards come in flavors like orange cream, coffee, and chocolate. Rita’s has everything for everybody. There’s no other place near La Cañada that serves italian ice and frozen custard in as wide array of flavors and quality.
Penguins has the best of both worlds: frozen yogurt and ice cream. The frozen yogurt flavors vary per season, from peanut butter fudge to tiramisu. They have simple flavors for ice cream, like cookies and cream and coffee, but also have bizarre ones such as green tea. Their refreshing and cool ice cream in chocolate dipped cones is the perfect way to cool off on a hot sunny day, and their friendly environment is a great place for students to relax and hangout after school
Pinkberry is a classic frozen yogurt place that has been around for a while. Although a little bit on the pricey side when it comes to frozen delights, their take on classic American sweets like apple pie ala mode, margarita, and chocolate chip cookie help satisfy the cravings, in a healthier, low calorie way.
When asked about his favorite place to get a frozen treat, junior Armand Bogossian said, “I love to go to Pinkberry when I’m craving frozen yogurt. My favorite thing to get from there is the chocolate hazelnut frozen yogurt with milk chocolate crunch. It’s fifty cents extra but it’s worth it.”
Senior Maggie Pierce said, “I’d have to go with Penguins. Their flavors change all the time, so I can try something new. But their green tea ice cream is always my number one pick.”
Next time you’re craving something cool and sweet, try out Ritas, Pinkberry, or Penguins, and you will not be disappointed.
